What Is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The coating is applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin". The powder is a thermoset Polyester. It is used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for coating of metals, such as household appliances, aluminium extrusions, drum hardware and automobile and bicycle parts.
Introduced to North America in the 1960's, powder coating has become extremely popular in both industrial use as well as personal use. Powder coating is a dry finish process used on a wide array of products including but not limited to industrial parts, automotive and motorcycle parts, boating parts, furniture, appliances, and anything else that is metal and needing a highly durable resilent finish. Used as functional (protective) and decorative finishes, powder coatings are available in an almost limitless range of colors and textures.
Powder coating is a high-quality finish found on thousands of products you come in contact with each day. Powder coating protects the roughest, toughest machinery as well as the household items you depend on daily. It provides a more durable finish than liquid paints can offer, while still providing an attractive finish. Powder coated products are more resistant to diminished coating quality as a result of impact, moisture, chemicals, ultraviolet light, and other extreme weather conditions. In turn, this reduces the risk of scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, fading, and other wear issues.
